Significance of Fasting on the Day of `Ashura'

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (Radhi-Allah-hu 'anhu):

When the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wa sallam) arrived at Medina he found that the Jews observed fast on the day of 'ashura'.

They were asked the reason for the fast. They replied, "This is the day when Allah caused Moses and the children of Israel to have victory over Pharaoh, so we fast on this day as a sign of glorifying it."

Allah's Apostle (salAllahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

"We are closer to Moses than you." Then he ordered that fasting on this day should be observed.

All actions of a believer are charity

An-Nawawi’s Hadith No.25

On the authority of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him):

Some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah, the affluent have made off with the rewards: they pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give away in charity the superfluity of their wealth."

He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Has not Allah made things for you to give away in charity?

Truly every Tasbih  is a charity,

every Takbir  is a charity,

every Tahmid  is a charity,

and every Tahlil  is a charity;

to enjoin a good action is a charity,

to forbid an evil action is a charity,

and in the sexual act of each of you there is a charity."

They said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when one of us fulfills his sexual desire will he have some reward for that?"

He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do you not think that were he to act upon it unlawfully he would be sinning? Likewise, if he has acted upon it lawfully he will have a reward."

Related by Muslim.

- Tasbih  [Subhan-Allah (glory be to Allah)]
- Takbir  [Allahu Akbar (Allah is most Great)]
- Tahmid  [Al-hamdu lillah (all praise be to Allah)]
- Tahlil  [La ilaha illallah (there is no god to be worshipped but Allah)]

Allah will not get tired of giving rewards

Narrated 'Aisha (May Allah be pleased with her):

The Messenger of Allah (salAllahu alayhi wa sallam) never fasted in any month more than in the month of Sha'ban. He used to say:

"Do those deeds which you can do easily, as Allah will not get tired (of giving rewards) till you get bored and tired (of performing religious deeds)."

The most beloved prayer to the Prophet was the one that was done regularly (throughout the life) even if it were little. And whenever the Prophet offered a prayer he used to offer it regularly.
